Billing instructions of Emergency Care (#SUG) – Rule 14 PG

Voir la version francophone

Following a stricter rule at the RAMQ regarding emergency care (#SUG), as of June 1st, you will be obligated to indicate emergency care on your cards if you want your services to be increased. Please note that this process is also intended to protect you in the event that the RAMQ performs an audit. In addition, we remind you that the exact time of service is required if you wish to apply the emergency care.

If you are not registered on the on-call list produced by your department head and you are called to assist another physician specialist in an exceptional emergency situation (shortcut #SUS), you must also add the element of context #SUS in addition to #SUG in order for your services to be increased.

To do this, you can follow one of the following instructions:

  • Check the emergency care box if this box is available on your cards OR
  • Write “SUG” after your codes that must be increased AND
  • Also write “SUS”, if applicable.

Example: 9108#SUG#SUS

If there is no indication on your cards, we will no longer automatically increase your services. It is also important to provide us with the exact hours of services when done in emergency care, so that we can apply the exact billing instructions requested by the RAMQ.

You will find the April 13th newsletter 009 regarding the varius changes concerning emergency care (rule 14 PG).
